Sworkit Wellness

We love snacks…and we should have them!

This might come as a surprise since many fitness or weight loss programs tell us to cut out any eating in between meals. But the truth is, as we try to stay fit, our bodies will need extra energy and nutrition.

You see, as you ask more and more from your body through new and more intense workouts, you need to make sure you’re giving it what it needs to tone up and build muscle.

Indulging in high energy snacks can help you maintain the course while providing the stamina you need to get through your work day and personal time with the family.

In fact, making and eating snacks is also a great way to get the family working together. Believe it or not, there are healthy snacks out there that appeal to moms, dads, and kids alike.

So staying fit and eating great provide ways for you to stay connected as a family.

Below are five awesome snacks that will help you and those around you build a healthy and happy lifestyle.

High Energy Snacks for Workouts, at the Office, and On-the-Go

1. Veggies and hummus

You can never go wrong with fresh veggies.

And frankly, the more you eat them, the more you’ll enjoy them as well. Hummus adds some extra nutrition for your body as you stay active.

Tomatoes, carrots, broccoli, cucumbers and bell peppers are especially great when paired with hummus, but feel free to experiment with whatever you like. If you’re especially adventurous, add a dash of cayenne or hot sauce for some extra flavor!

2. Fruit and nut/seed butter

This option can satisfy your sweet tooth and keep you healthy at the same time.

Instead of reaching for sweets that are bad for your body, make the choice to pull out an apple or a banana. The healthy sugars will energize not just your body, but your mind as well.

Adding your favorite nut/seed butter will also provide desired protein.

If you’re really feeling in need of some extra energy, pair the fruit and nut/seed butter with some healthy dark chocolate morsels.

3. Avocados

Let’s be honest, avocados aren’t for the faint-hearted. They are, after all, undeniably green.

But, take it from us, once you get started eating avocados, it’s super easy to get hooked! Avocados provide healthy fats that give you the stamina to keep going strong.

Avocados also make a great post-workout snack, especially those who are looking to build some extra muscle. Serve them up on bread (or toast, right?), with whole grain chips or crackers, or just plain as a delicious snack!

4. Trail mix

This is an easy option for people who are always on the run. Mix up a quick batch, split it up into snack-sized baggies, and keep them available in your kitchen or car. That way, you’ll always have a ready-made, healthy snack option on hand.

So, no more giving in to temptation when your stomach tells you to buy fries or Oreo cookies! You have something better at your fingertips.

When you’re making the mix, just make sure that you include nuts and healthy dried fruits, not just sugary candies.

5. Smoothies

If you don’t mind being a little more involved in the whole snack-making process, whip up a smoothie. This superpower snack is like everything wrapped into one. It’s nourishing, hydrating, healthy and sweet at the same time.

Pick fruits that you like (berries work especially well), then add some yogurt, vanilla, a healthy sweetener (like maple syrup), and voila! Your awesome, healthy snack is ready!

Give Your Body What it Needs…Snacks!

Making good food choices is essential for overall health and happiness. Your body needs energy-boosters throughout the day, especially if you maintain an active lifestyle. As you learn to make healthy choices, you’ll begin see results. And that is always exciting!
