Sworkit Health Equity Guiding Principles
Introduction
Sworkit Health is guided by its mission to make the world a significantly healthier place by creating simple, enjoyable, and flexible solutions for individuals, families, and future generations that provide a positive, long-lasting, multi-generational impact. Similarly, our mission also guides our Sworkit Health Equity Strategy in that Sworkit has always been committed to improving access to care, addressing health disparities, meeting the needs of diverse populations, and creating an inclusive solution.
Valuing Diversity
At our core, Sworkit Health as an organization is built on diversity and inclusion. From the beginning, as a Black-co-founded, veteran-led organization, we understand the value of bringing different perspectives and backgrounds to solve problems affecting every population regardless of race, ethnicity, culture, or gender.
Supporting Inclusion
To affect real change, we believe inclusivity plays a vital role in product development — we are mindful and purposeful in our efforts to build an inclusive product that is accessible and representative of diverse populations, needs, and abilities. Our content includes diverse instructors and imagery to invite members of varying ethnicities, fitness levels, and physical abilities to a welcoming and supportive environment where they can focus on their health.
Improving Access
As a digital platform, we remove physical barriers that may prevent someone from accessing physical activity due to limited transportation and facilities. Economically, Sworkit is incredibly affordable for individuals, businesses, and health plans. We are committed to the democratization of access to top-tier physical activity instruction and believe these are not meant to be limited to only those who can afford premium memberships to boutique classes, expensive subscriptions, or expensive equipment. Sworkit makes every effort to simplify fitness and educate our members at every stage to eliminate educational barriers and promote healthy lifestyle habits. For example, in 2018, Sworkit Health launched the Sworkit Youth Initiative, making Sworkit’s fitness technology accessible for schools, students, teachers, and coaches worldwide, to break down barriers to access and cut the rate of childhood obesity in half by the year 2026. Since launching, Sworkit has provided free access to more than 15,000 schools with a (potential) reach of more than ten million students.
Addressing Health Disparities
Sworkit provides a safe and inclusive product designed to deliver personalized fitness guidance to individuals of any ability and background. Each member determines their own goal, and Sworkit provides the instruction, guidance, and motivation to help each member progress to and achieve that goal.
