Ways You Can Switch Up Your Workout Now That the Weather is Warmer

Ryan Hanna

The weather is warming up, and many people are tired of being cooped up inside–especially after a winter spent social distancing or in quarantine. With the weather warming up, however, more workout opportunities are opening up. Now is the perfect time to switch up your workout and enjoy new, different routines in the great outdoors.

1. Go for a run/walk.

Look for local trails where you can go for a long walk or run. Take a trip around your neighborhood. Check out your local parks, especially if you’re lucky enough to have more than one in your local area. Switch up your workout and go to a place you’ve never walked or run before. You may be surprised by just how much it boosts your mood to get outside and try something new!

2. Go on a local hike.

If you have hiking trails within walking distance, gear up and plan to spend a day out on the trails. You’ll get to take in the joys of nature and, in many cases, get away from everything for a few hours while you enjoy a day in the great outdoors.

3. Break out your bike.

If you don’t want to head out on your feet alone, especially if you’re lucky enough to have a long distance to travel, break out your bike! Inflate your tires, make sure you’re wearing your safety gear, and head out for a long bike ride. You might just find that this is a great way to shake off some stress and get to know your local area in a way you might not have otherwise–and to see the sights from a brand new perspective.

4. Use Sworkit outside.

The convenience of Sworkit can go with you anywhere, whether you’re planning to head out to the local park or looking for a workout that you can do on the beach. Take Sworkit wherever you’re switching up your workout–even to your own backyard! Sometimes, just shaking up the location can add a little extra fun to your workouts–or up the difficulty level so that you can get even more out of your favorite workouts.

5. Go for a swim.

In some areas of the country, it’s already warming up enough that you can get outside and in the water–and if it’s not yet quite warm enough in your local area, you might be able to find a heated outdoor pool where you can enjoy the water and the weather without freezing through your entire workout. Not only is swimming a great way to burn calories and increase muscle, it could leave you feeling more relaxed and less stressed.

6. Try yoga on the beach.

If you’re near a beach, take the Sworkit app out and try a yoga routine, or take your usual favorite yoga routine straight to the beach to enjoy. You could also enjoy yoga on a dock near a lake or the ground near a river, where the uneven ground could add some new challenges to your balance and help you build muscle in new ways. We recommend trying our Everyday Feel Good Yoga.

After a winter indoors, it’s time to start moving outside and switch up your workout again–and there are plenty of options available to you. Whether you take to your local hiking trails, go for a long walk outdoors, or just take your Sworkit workout outdoors, you can experience the many benefits of an outdoor exercise routine, from increasing your Vitamin D intake to boosting your mood as you take in the local scenery. Take your app outside now to get started with your first outdoor workout and see what benefits it has to offer.
