We’re so excited to introduce Sworkit Spotlight! We’re interviewing our very inspiring Sworkiteers. If you’re interested in being spotlighted email us at stories@sworkit.com. Cookie is busy but that doesn’t stop her. She is a mom, a events associate, and a licensed Zumba instructor. She supplements her workouts with Sworkit. Sworkit is perfect since she works from home. Meet Cookie!
I’m Cookie.
Born and raised in the Philippines, and still proudly residing here.
Aside from having Filipino blood, I’m also part American (paternal side), part Chinese and part Spanish (maternal side).
I’ve been happily married to my college best friend Michael for almost twelve years now.
We’re blessed with an 11-year-old daughter named Elkannah, and a 4-year-old son named Jeremicah.
I’ve always loved dancing, and my parents even told me that I danced before I could walk!
I’ve been a Licensed Zumba® Instructor since March 15, 2015, and I will be getting my STRONG by Zumba® License on May 24, 2018.
I’ve been a mountain biking enthusiast since 2002, and a Muaythai aficionado since 2004.
I consider my kettlebells, resistance band, and my medicine ball my favorite fitness equipment at home (or outdoors).
Since I am a full-time homemaker, a work-from-home events associate and online researcher, it is truly essential to have a reliable app like Sworkit to keep my fitness level in check wherever I may be!
How do you create and maintain habits?
I create good habits by setting short-term goals that are realistic and achievable and then set a specific plan for reaching these goals. For instance, sometimes we get caught up in the bigger picture when it comes to fitness and weight loss. However, by setting shorter goals, it makes them easier to maintain and more achievable. So, the habits that I have created for myself such as going to the gym and not forgetting to engage in the Sworkit app are enforced by timed reminders on my phone. I set certain alarms, that go off every day to ensure my success.
What do you love MOST about Sworkit?
I love the convenience of having readily-available workouts at the palm of my hand and the selection of exercises are so comprehensive, that I never get tired of them at all.
What are 5 things you do to be as healthy as you can?
- Exercise at least 30 minutes a day.
- Eat six small portions instead of the usual 3 big servings per day.
- Hydrate often. At least 6 glasses of water a day! I happen to love drinking good ol’ H2O, so it has never been a problem for me.
- Be well rested. I always make sure I get no less than 8 hours of sleep a day.
- Strive to go outdoors, especially with my family and friends. In the advent of social media, the internet, and electronic gadgets, it is refreshing to go off the grid every now and then, and bond with each other over various activities without utilizing our computers or mobile phones.
When in doubt, what inspires you to workout?
Looking at my ever-fit and ever-inspiring father.
Thinking of the years I’d get to spend with my husband and our kids, and the longer life that I’d get to enjoy if I’m always healthy and well.
Your favorite workout?
A toss-up between burpees and the dive bomber push-up!
Who is your fitness inspiration?
My father. He has been my hero since birth. He turns 60 years old this year, and he’s still the fittest dad I know.
You make us smile, Cookie! And you definitely like a challenge- burpees and diver bomb push-ups are usually what we hear people dread. Thanks for Sworking it with us and I’m sure everyone can agree that you’re results and motivation are amazing.
